The Municipal Chief Executive of Obuasi Kwasi Ofori Agyemang has disclosed that the publicity enjoyed by the Obuasi Municipal after the Premier League title triumph by AshantiGold is the greatest ever in the history of the mining community.
AshantiGold SC have won the 2014/15 First Capital Plus Premier League with a match to go and the MCE believes that the attention and publicity it has brought the Obuasi township is the greatest publicity they have ever had insisting that not even the gold mines have been able to fetch them that publicity.
In an interview with GHANAsoccernet.com Ofori Agyemang said,"The publicity that the club has brought to this township for winning the league is the greatest in the history of this city. We have never had such a publicity".
"I must confess that not even the gold mines of Obuasi has been able to fetch us this publicity within this short period of time. Every radio or television station in Ghana is now talking about Obuasi because AshGold have won the league. It is something that we are proud of", he added.
The Miners achieved this feat by defeating WAFA 1-0 at the Len Clay Stadium through a 72nd minute penalty converted by Emmanuel Osei.
Bashir Hayford’s boys now have a healthy six-point gap ahead of Aduana Stars going into the final round of matches.
