Aston Villa talking point: Jordan Ayew - super sub for the rest of the season?
Jordan Ayew

Jordan Ayew is very much the victim of circumstance at Aston Villa this season.

Under Roberto Di Matteo he was an ever-present.

He is now playing for a manager who may fully appreciate his talents, but may also see him as an impact player rather than a guaranteed starter.

In truth Rudy Gestede is much more likely to be the player that Steve Bruce opts for to challenge Jonathan Kodjia and Ross McCormack in the starting eleven.

Ayew is a lightweight player, but one that can hurt teams with his pace and footwork.

He also knows exactly where the goal is and how to play someone in on goal.

The negative for Ayew is that the Championship demands a certain style of play from the start of the game and teams have to dominate their opponents and push them back in their own half.

That requires players holding the ball up and being physical.

It's not that it would be a disaster for Ayew to start, but the team would be better serviced with him attacking tired legs in the last 20 minutes.

That showed against Reading, and I have a sneaky feeling it could become par for the course.
