Atalanta coach congratulates Napoli after defeat

Atalanta coach Edy Reja has congratulated his opponents after his side’s loss at Napoli.

La Dea were defeated 2-1 by the Partenopei on Monday evening but the 70-year-old showed no signs of bitterness following the conclusion of the match.

“I want to congratulate Napoli for building such a strong team and I hope that they will remain in second place this season,” Reja told Premium Sport.

“They are a difficult side to contain, especially with Gonzalo Higuain in the lineup.

“Marek Hamsik has also become a great player and is attached to his club.

“The city of Naples has given him so much and he has given a great deal back.”

Reja then turned his attention to his own side’s performance on Monday and throughout the season.

“We performed well throughout the match, but we have little to show for it,” Reja conceded.

“We have worked well this season but unfortunately German Denis decided to leave and Mauricio Pinilla has suffered with injury throughout the season which has left us thin at the striker position.

“We have also played with fear in certain moments but we have managed to settle ourselves safely in the standings.”
