Former Ghana international Augustine Arhinful says the calls from football populace for the return of Kwesi Appiah does not surprise him.

Appiah, who led Ghana to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but mutually terminate the contract after the tournament has been earmarked as favourite to inherit the position left by Israeli coach Avram Grant.

According to reports, five coaches have been shortlisted for the vacant job by the committee mandated by the Ghana FA to find the next coach, but it is the Al Khartoum coach who stands a chance of winning the race.

"He has been there before and i hope going forward we would want to promote our own so i am really not surprised," Arhinful told Joy FM

"If Appiah is coming he should be given support, come with his backroom staff, those that he trusts and the FA can make an input.”
