Melbourne: Australia international midfielder Aaron Mooy’s outstanding season has been rewarded with a move to English Premier League giants Manchester City.

Mooy joins the Citizens from the A-League’s Melbourne City, who confirmed the deal on their website. Both clubs part of the City Football Group consortium of clubs.

The move is just reward for Mooy, who lit up the A-League with 11 goals and 21 assists in 26 matches and has become a regular starter in Ange Postecoglou’s national team.

The 25-year-old joins the four-time English champions on a three-year deal, although the role he will play in Manchester remains unclear, with a further loan deal a possibility.

City Football Services Managing Director Brian Marwood said the consortium’s setup would be beneficial to Mooy

“Aaron is extremely talented player who possesses the attributes we hope to foster and encourage within the City Football Group.

“With the unique model CFG provides, Aaron’s move to Manchester allows us to further expose him to a high standard of opportunities to ensure his professional growth.”

Melbourne City also announced the loan signings of two Australian players on Manchester City’s books, with midfielders Luke Brattan, 26, and Anthony Caceres, 23, joining the club.

Brattan, who played a key role in three A-League championships with Brisbane Roar, returns to Australian football after joining Manchester City, where he is yet to make his debut, a year ago.

For Caceres, the deal marks a return to Melbourne. He was also loaned to Melbourne City last season, making 11 appearances for the club after joining in January.
