Avram Grant explains why he constantly calls up bench-warmers; Christian Atsu and Mubarak Wakaso into Black Stars
Wakaso and Atsu have been constantly called up into the Black Stars

Coach Avram Grant admits it is difficult inviting players who are inactive at club level to the Black Stars.

Some players constantly earn call ups to the Black Stars despite not featuring at club level.

Avram Grant considers players like Christian Atsu and Mubarak Wakaso as vital to his team even though they struggle for game time at their respective clubs.

These players are constantly chosen over others who are play regularly for their clubs.

But Avram Grant though admitting to this imbalanced consideration in selecting players, he says some of these players deliver the goods whenever they are called.

“It is not easy to pick players to the national team because they are not playing at their clubs. I am not happy about this,” he said.

“If they are not playing for the team they have to be good for us in training and in matches to be called.

“I tell you something about Christian Atsu and Wakaso. They came to African Cup and Atsu was the Best player and Wakaso was also one of the best performers.

“They do well in training and also in matches so it becomes difficult to leave them out.”
