President of Barrack Young Controllers Mohamed Sekou Massalay is confident his side can pull off a major surprise by beating Kotoko in Sunday’s CAF Champions League match.

The Liberian powerhouse will travel to Kumasi to face the Ghanaian champions in the preliminary qualifier of Africa’s elite inter-club competition.

The Liberians could prove tough customers following their impressive run in the Liberian top-flight.

But with Kotoko's pedigree and quality of players at their disposal, pundits have easily predicted an easy stroll for the Porcupine Warriors.

But Barrack Young Controllers President Sekou Massalay is aware of the pedigree of their opponent but insists they will qualify at their expense.

“Kotoko is a team we have great deal of respect for, with a great history in Africa,” Massalay told Kumasi-based Angel FM

“We know Kotoko and some of their famous stars. We followed them during the CHAN tournament in South Africa and so we know their activities very well.

“We should be considered as a new team on the block. We respect the history of Kotoko but this is modern football you know, where only 22 players will be on the field.

“I think we bring new dynamism into the African game, with new quality players. We have about five or six players who are part of the Liberia National team.

“It is going to be a great game. We anticipate a great game in Kumasi. We should not be taken for granted.

“We will pull off a serious fight and surprise in Kumasi. We definitely think we can qualify at the expense of Kotoko. Football is about current form not past history.

“We are more than determined to also make history and the only way to do that is to beat Kotoko.” he concluded.

The Liberian side are expected to arrive in Ghana on Wednesday for the big showdown at the Baba Yara stadium.

Meanwhile Kotoko have also been boosted by the return of eight of their key players from the CHAN tournament.
