Mali and Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita left an imprint in Accra, when he made a donation during his trip to the Ghanaian capital for the CAF Awards 2011 Gala.
Ahead of Thursday's awards gala, Keita visited the Osu Children’s Home and made a donation of assorted foodstuffs to the children of the orphanage.
The 31-year old Barcelona midfielder also interacted with the kids.
Keita recalled his difficult upbringing and said the gesture was his widow’s mite to the Orphanage despite to support the upkeep of the children.
“I am from Mali, and I am glad to support a Ghanaian orphanage. I feel like a Ghanaian and believe this gesture is like supporting my fellow African brothers and sisters,†the midfielder said.
Keita was named as runner-up to Ivorian Yaya Toure, who won the African Player of the Year 2011.
Ghanaian midfielder Andre Ayew finished third in the poll decided by votes from the Head Coaches or Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF.
