German giants Bayern Munich have released a statement wishing their former player Samuel Osei Kuffour the best of luck as the new ‘President’ of Asante Kotoko even before his appointment is made official.

The former Ghana defender in an interview with Accra-based Metro TV suggested he has been handed the club as ‘President’ over a five-year period.

Kuffour had apparently held behind-the-scenes talks with club owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu II over taking over the administration of the club.

Reports claim the 39-year-old was promised he will be handed the club and his appointment made official last Friday.

But the ceremony meant to dissolve the existing board with the view of handing the club to Sammy Kuffour last week never took place – raising even more uncertainty at the club.

According to sources, club owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is unhappy with Kuffour’s premature public declaration even before his appointment is made official and is reconsidering the decision.

Bayern Munich upon picking up reports of Kuffour’s appointment, have released a statement revealing their excitement at an appointment of their former player which formally is non-existent.

“Greetings from FC Bayern Munich on the occasion of Samuel Osei Kuffour’s appointment as President of Kumasi Asante Kotoko,” the statement from Bayern Munich’s Communication department is headlined.

“Everybody in our club is glad about the appointment of our former player and friend Sammy Kuffour as President of Africa Champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

“We wish him much success and to be lucky for this office with all his decisions in order to stay at the head of the Ghanaian Football.”

The statement released by Bayern Munich is likely to complicate things for Samuel Osei Kuffour towards his expected appointment as sources have revealed the club owner and his subjects are unhappy with Kuffour's public declaration of taking over the club before it is made official.

Kuffour played out almost his entire professional club career at Bayern Munich where he won several Bundesliga titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2001 having famously wept uncontrollably two seasons before when Bayern Munich lost out in the finals to Manchester United from a winning position with barely two minutes of time left.
