Ghana's hopes of grabbing Belgium-born Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe to play for the Black Stars have ended after he played for the European country in a recent friendly.

The 21-year-old was contemplating switching allegiance to play for Ghana in future after excelling in recent matches in the Belgian top-flight.

Odjidja-Ofoe, who plays for Club Brugge, was born in the European country to a Ghanaian father and Belgian mother.

He joined German giants Hamburg in 2008 from Anderlecht but returned to play for Club Brugge last year.

Since then he has been impressive for Brugge but was not considered by the senior side until he made his Ghana intentions clear.

It has now been revealed that he featured for Belgium in a friendly against Russia two months ago which means he is not eligible to play for Ghana.

Belgium football authorities gave him just one minute of action when the youngster came on for Moussa Dembele in the game Belgium won 2-0.

"Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe can no longer play for Ghana because he played in their recent friendly against Russia," Agyin Solomon, one of the leaders of the Ghana community told GHANAsoccernet.com

"I was the person in charge of his outdooring ceremony when he was born so I know the family very well.

"He was very keen on playing for Ghana because his father and I have spoken about it for a long time.

"But when no information was coming in whether Ghana wanted him or not, he considered the Belgium opportunity."

Odidja-Ofoe is currently applying for a Ghanaian passport to enable him visit the country but has not ruled out playing for the Black Stars.

He joined German Bundesliga side Hamburg in January 2008 but left after one year to his current side Club Belgian in a 900,000 Euro deal.
