Kotoko youth team suffer defeat against Benfica

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko suffered a 3-0 humiliation on the hands of Portuguese giants Benfica in their opening game at the Blue Stars FIFA Youth Championship on Wednesday.

Karim Zito's were unable to stand the might of a talented Benfica youngsters who ripped them apart even before the end of the first-half, netting twice in the opening twenty minutes of the game.

Zito shuffled his cards after the break by introducing fresh blood but the Porcupets could simply not stand the might of an all-conquering Benfica side that had just won the European U-19 Championship in Barcelona two months ago.

Kotoko were chosen as the only club from Africa to compete at this year's finals following their rating by IFFHS as the best club on the African continent.

FC Sion, FC Zurich, Benfica, Bayern Munich and Olympiacos are all competing at the finals.
