Ghana midfielder Bennard Yao Kumordzi has explained why he rejected offers from other countries to stay in Belgium.

The 32-year-old joined KV Kortrijk on a two-year deal last month after four seasons with KRC Genk.

Before inking the deal to join the Guys, Kumordzi was reported to be on his way out of Belgium and teams from Turkey and Denmark were credited with an interest.

But he instead opted to join last season’s 10th placed side Kortrijk and disclosed that his decision was purely based on family reasons.

“I had so many offers to from outside Belgium but because of my family I decided to stay in the league,” he told nieuwsblad.

The lanky enforcer partnered Serbian midfielder Vladimir Kovacevic at the heart of Kortrijk midfield in their 1-0 loss to Charleroi in the Belgian Jupilar PRO League opener over the weekend.
