Berekum Arsenal have appointed ex-Black Stars captain as the technical director of the club, GHANAsoccernet can confirm.

The former Ebusua Dwarfs technical director will be officially introduced to the team before their tie against AshantiGold at home.

Johnson Smith will retain his position as head coach.

"We have appointed John Eshun as the technical director of the club because we honestly believe he (Eshun) is too big to be handed a head coach position," General Secretary Douglas Effah told GHANAsoccernet.com

"With his pedigree, I don’t think it will be prudent to let him issue instructions directly from the bench but rather steering affairs from the technical room would fit him best so we expect him to be starting work by the close of the week".

Berekum Arsenal are struggling in the league as they lie in the drop zone after 10 matches.

Eshun represented Ghana at the1968 and 1972 summer Olympics.

He also played in the 1968 and 1970 Africa Cup of Nations finals before retiring.
