Berekum Arsenals to face Ghana FA rap over Mahatma Otoo assault

Published on: 27 December 2012

Berekum Arsenals could face sanctions after irate supporters physically attacked Hearts captain Mahatma Otoo.

The 20-year-old was slapped from behind and kicked onto the ground by fuming supporters of the home side who felt angered by his two goals that ensured Hearts picked a point at the Golden City Park.

The incident has drawn wild condemnation from many Ghanaian soccer fans with Hearts coach David Duncan labeling the venue unfit to host Premier League matches.

Though officials of the Berekum-bases side have remained tight-lipped on the issue, the incident is likely to draw the attention of the disciplinary committee of the Ghana FA.

FA officials will await the reports from referee Vincent Otoo but the Gunners are likely to face sanctions for their failure to prevent the pitch invasion and also the attack on Otoo.

Arsenals could face sanctions ranging from hefty fine to home ban.

It would be recalled that Real Tamale United were slapped with a six-game home ban after irate supporters attacked Medeama players during a Premier League at the Tamale sports stadium early last month.
