Berekum Chelsea go top after late Edubiase win

Berekum Chelsea left it late to beat New Edubiase United 2-1 on Saturday to temporarily move to the summit of the Ghana Premier League table.

Striker Latif Salifu scored the all-important of the game for the Blues in the 90th minute as they overcame a stubborn Edubiase side.

Salifu wasted a first half penalty kick in the 35th minute after Edubiase left-back Nartey Polo bundled twinkle toes Solomon Asante inside the box.

After a goalless first half, Ghana winger Asante steered Yussif Abubakar's men in front five minutes after the break.

He sneaked past his marker and dinged a ball over hardworking Edubiase goalkeeper Eric Nii Baah.

But the Bekwai-based side did not allow their host to complete the jubilation as Ebenezer Ofori levelled the scoring from a spot kick.

Chelsea midfielder Owusu Jackson handled a box inside the box and referee Franklin Cobbinah pointed to the spot.

Chelsea gave their all in search of the match winner but Edubiase's defence remained tough and solid.

When the match was heading for a 1-1 draw, Salifu slalomed through two defenders before clinically finishing off in style.
