Berekum Chelsea’s Chief Executive Nana Kwame Nketia says the club is taking steps to retrieve the US$1.4m fine from Esperance for the transfer of Ghana striker Emmanuel Clottey.
FIFA slapped the fine on the Tunisian after failing to pay a single dime to the Blues for the sale of Clottey in 2012.
Esperance are however yet to make any attempts to pay the fine with just two days to the deadline contained in the ruling of the single judge and chairman of FIFA Players’ Status Committee, Geoff Thompson.
Chelsea’s Chief Executive Nketia however says the club’s legal representatives are eagerly awaiting the deadline for the ruling before taking the next line of action.
“Our lawyers are doing the follow up on the ruling, but they [Esperance] have not paid the amount,†he told Metro FM.
“But their deadline is yet to expire so we are still monitoring the situation before making a move.â€
Esperance signed Emmanuel Clottey on the back of an impressive campaign in the CAF Champions League in 2012 – where the Ghana striker topped the scoring chart with 12 goals.
The Blood and Gold have however failed to honour the financial obligation of the transfer despite the sale of Yannick N’Djeng and Youssef Msakni for huge transfer fees to FC Sion and Lekhwiya respectively.
Esperance now face relegation to the lowest division in Tunisia and the suspension of their license to conduct player transfers once they default in paying the fine before the deadline.
