Berekum Chelsea stay on top in Group A

Berekum Chelsea played out an unexciting 0-0 draw with Heart of Lions in the second Group A game of the ongoing Glo G8 Cup on Wednesday.

Chelsea dominated the highly disappointing first half but was unable to create enough clear-cut goal scoring opportunities.

It took 29 minutes for the reigning Premier League champions to carve out the match’s first real chance when returnee Charles Taylor went on one of his solo surging runs upfront.

After beating three men with his sizzling skills the ex Hearts of Oak winger laid a telling pass to striker Musah Mohammed but he took too much time in making up his mind and the chance was gone.

Lions contributed virtually nothing upfront in the first half, they were only content with defending in the hope to catch Chelsea on the break but that tactic failed to miserably as they finished the first half with not even a single shot at goal.

The Kpando lads however showed more purpose upfront and created a handful of chances in the second half but their efforts were all thwarted by poor finishing.

Their second half posture, a complete contrast of the first opened up the game – making it much more appealing to the eye as spaces begun to develop for free flowing attacking football.

Despite the game's openness and the plethora of chances that came both ways in particular another solo run from Charles Taylor in the 51st minute, a combination of poor finishing and impressive goalkeeping by Nana Bonsu in the Lions post ensured the spoils were equally shared.

Chelsea though maintains its top spot position in Group A with four points, similar to that of Aduama Stars but ahead on superior goal scored.

New Edubiase and Heart of Lions remain third and fourth respectively with just a single point ahead of the final round of group matches on Saturday.
