Bielsa joins Argentina following swift Lazio exit

After a sensational departure from Lazio just 48 hours after being appointed, Marcelo Bielsa is set to become the new Argentina coach.

The former Marseille boss signed a contract with the Biancocelesti but pulled out just two days later, citing the club’s transfer policy as the main reason, and was subsequently replaced by Simone Inzaghi.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the 60-year-old will now take charge of the Argentine national team as they look to restart following the international retirement of Lionel Messi after their loss to Chile in the Copa America final.

This will be a second chance for Bielsa as Argentina coach after his first stint between 1998 and 2004, during which he failed to guide La Albiceleste past the group stages of the 2002 World Cup.

Inzaghi, meanwhile, will only take charge of Lazio in a caretaker role, meaning the position is still vacant for the Serie A side to appoint a new coach.
