BIG BLOW as Sarfo Gyamfi's move to Kotoko hits a snag over registration issues
Frank Sarfo Gyamfi cannot play for Asante Kotoko

Frank Sarfo Gyamfi’s move to Asante Kotoko is off after it emerged he cannot be duly registered to play in the Ghana Premier League.

The Ghana U20 star has joined the team’s pre-season camp in Tamale after completing his medicals only to be told he cannot play in the Ghanaian top flight over registration technicalities, according to Metro941.com.

The Maritzburg United player is looking to play in Ghana again on a one-year loan deal.

The registration deadline for such players wishing to return to play in Ghana who are not FREE AGENTS per FIFA’s International Registration system has already expired – preventing the registration of the former Wa All Stars player.

Sarfo Gyamfi thus cannot play for Kotoko and for that matter any club in Ghana until the transfer window re-opens in January.

This is a massive blow to the 19-year-old who was looking to revive his stale career after suffering extensive spells on the sidelines last season mainly through injury.

This was the same rule that prevented Michael Helegbe from playing for Kotoko when he first joined the team last year.

The winger had negotiated and concluded talks and had even joined the team in pre-season training before the emergence of this news.

It is now unclear if Gyamfi will remain in Ghana to train with a club of his choice awaiting the next transfer window or will revert to his mother club Maritzburg United.
