Assistant coach of the Ghana Olympic team Karim Zito insists there is no call for alarm after his side slumped to a 3-0 defeat to Medeama in a friendly match played on Sunday.

The Black Meteors were overrun by the marauding Yellow and Mauves playing for the first time under their new coach Tom Strand at the Tarkwa T&A Park.

Philip Asweh opened the scoring for Medeama just before recess with a neat finish before Kennedy Boateng doubled the lead just four minutes into the restart.

Nathaniel Asamoah then put the gloss over the impressive performance with Medeama’s third as the Black Meteors chased shadows throughout the game.

The defeat has send shivers through the spines of many Ghanaians who are wondering whether the Ghana U23 team is strong enough to qualify the nation to the next Olympic Games in Rio.

But the team’s assistant coach Karim Zito wants the fans to remain calm and not read too many meanings into the crashing defeat.

“We are not that worried by this defeat,” he said.

“You could tell the team is fatigued due to its tough schedule.

“We wanted to test the fitness of the players and not looking out for the result.

“We are building a team and therefore this defeat doesn't necessarily say anything.”
