The Black Queens on Tuesday received the cedi equivalent of $6,000 each being payment of their outstanding winning bonuses for previous qualifiers, the state-owned Daily Graphic has reported.

The amount covered the Queens’ double win over Zimbabwe in the second round of the Olympic qualifiers.

The cheques were given to each member of the Queens moments after their 4-0 win against Tunisia in their African Women's Championship (AWC) qualifier at the Accra Stadium yesterday.

Captain Mercy Myles said the payment came as a great surprise to them as she expressed the hope that the outstanding bonuses would be cleared.

"Certainly, this is a pleasant surprise and we're happy about it. But our joy will be complete when the rest of the bonuses, including our double victory over Tunisia, are paid," she said.
