Captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan has blamed the bad state of pitches in the country for the poor quality of play in the Ghana Premier League.

According to the Shanghai SIPG striker, the media coverage of the local league has been splendid but the nature of the pitches at the match venues draws the game back.

Speaking at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park after Liberty’s 2-0 win over New Edubiase on Monday, Gyan lauded the organization of the Premier League, the media coverage and called for improvement in the pitches.

“I have said earlier that the media has been splendid in the coverage of the Ghana Premier League this season and that is brilliant.

“But the only problem now is the nature of the pitches. They reduce the quality of play that we should be seeing and that makes me sad,” Gyan said.

“If our pitches are improved, we shall witness great football,” he added.

Gyan played for Liberty Professionals in the Ghana Premier League before moving to Europe to continue his career.
