Renowned Ghanaian economist Dr. Kofi Amoah says the Black Stars deserve the planned remuneration package for the 2014 World Cup amidst the intense uproar amongst sections of the Ghanaian public.

Each Black Stars player will receive $75,000 for just participating at the tournament to be staged in Brazil.

The players will also be entitled to a $15,000 bonus for winning a single game at the group stage of the competition that kicks off in June.

Some Ghanaians have however criticized the planned package for the Black Stars team – claiming it is just too much and inconsistent with current challenges facing the economy.

But Dr. Kofi Amoah insists the ‘star-studded’ team deserves every portion of the planned package for the World Cup.

“These people that we call to come and play in the Black Stars are stars in their own right,” he said on Metrp TV’s current affairs show Good Evening Ghana.

“Of course they are making millions on their contracts and all that but until they themselves say the money you are giving us, we are giving it back, I think they deserve it.

“To motivate them and help us do well in Brazil.

“It could have been 40, 000, it could 30, 000, it could be 100, 000 but they [authorities] selected 75,000.

“The point I am making is that some compensation, some recognition from the nation ought to be given to the players for putting our country on the map and that they should go and die a little for the nation.”

The financial incentives for the Black Stars at the last World Cup four years ago in South Africa has been maintained.

Ghana hope to go at least one better than the quarter final feat achieved last term in Brazil.

The Black Stars must however first make it out of a tough group against Germany, Portugal and USA.
