Ex Ghana defender Samuel Osei-Kuffour has thrown his support behind suggestions to have the Black Stars players accompanied by their wives and girlfriends to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The Ghana FA has come out to deny reports of the suggestion made by team psychologist Professor J.K Mintah to see the players come along to the estimated six-week tournament with their spouses.
This ignited a huge debate as it is the first time such a policy will be implemented in Ghana even though it is a norm with some of the established teams in the World.
The suggestion was to have the wives and girlfriends of the Black Stars players travel to Brazil to offer extra support during the tournament where there will be regulated time frames for the players to interact with their better halves.
But the Ghana FA in a statement last week say it is not considering such a proposal.
But former Ghana star Samuel Osei Kuffour believes the realization of such a proposal will be a major boost for the team at the World Cup.
ââ¬ÅI agree 100 percent with plans to have wives and girlfriends accompany the Black Stars to the World Cup,â⬠the ex Bayern Munich defender told Kumasi-based Kessben FM.
ââ¬ÅIt is all over but just that because it is something new to us it will be difficult for Ghanaians to understand.
ââ¬ÅBut if we donââ¬â¢t start it now, we cannot begin anywhere. It helps psychologically with the unity of the team.
ââ¬ÅBecause the wives know each other, they talk and make everything nice.
ââ¬ÅThe mere fact that you have such a loved one around eases a lot of tension and relaxes the player.
ââ¬ÅIt also ensures that the players remain in check as they will not be looking to do certain unacceptable things in camp.
ââ¬ÅSometimes also the players get the edge to do something extra on the field of play once they know their loved ones are looking on.
ââ¬ÅIt will have a psychological advantage for the players and it will bring the team good luck at the World Cup.ââ¬
Do you think the proposal to have the wives and girlfriends of Black Stars players travel to Brazil for the World Cup will help Ghana as Sammy Kuffour suggests?
