Kwasi Nyantakyi says the intended $15,000 winning bonus for the Black Stars players at the 2013 Nations Cup falls far below expectations.

The intended financial package for the Ghana team at the tournament which kicks off early next year in South Africa has been met with an intense public uproar.

The critics say the planned financial package is inconsistent with the economic and pay structure of the nation where the Head of State earns far less.

But the Ghana FA boss says the players demanded even more than the reported $15,000 proposed to be given for winning matches at the 2013 AFCON considering the huge wages the players are on with their respective European clubs.

“At every particular point in time the money we pay to players is not what they demanded, they demand more than that,” he said.

“Based on the inculcation of the virtues or the principles of patriotism and nationalism that they seem to imbibe, it sobers them to understand it is just not about the money but then they need to die for their country.

“You must also appreciate that back in their clubs, most of them who play in Europe earn more than what we give them here.

“So if it is purely about money they will not even come here, they will stay behind and play for their clubs.”

Ghana is aiming to end a 31-year wait for an African title by the time the competition starts on January 19.

The Black Stars is drawn in Group B alongside Mali, Niger and DR Congo.
