Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris is pleased with Valenciennes' winning mentality after inspiring them to a 2-1 triumph over Stade Rennes in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday.

The 22-year-old turned the architect in the 54th minute as he set up Mathieu Dossevi to cancel out Ola Toivonen's 48th minute opener for Rennes before scoring his 5th goal in 9 games, converting expertly from the spot.

"It was good to record another win because that is most important as we have to fight relegation. We played well and kept our focus in the game," he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

Waris joined Valenciennes from Russian side Spartak Moscow and has played an influential role in their fight to beat the drop.
