Ghana FA spokesman Ibrahim Sannie Daara insists winning the World Cup is a real possibility for the Black Stars since they are given the best of treatment as compared to perennial winners of the tournament.

The Black Stars will be making a third straight appearance at the finals that kicks off on June 12 in Brazil.

Ghana is drawn in a considerably tough group alongside Germany, Portugal and the USA.

And while many believe winning the World Cup especially for an African country is only a mirage, the Ghana FA officials say it can be achieved in Brazil.

Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi had earlier stated that the Black Stars will be tasked to winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil – a target the association’s spokesman believes is well within the realistic capability of Kwesi Appiah’s team.

“It [winning the World Cup] is a realistic target,” Daara said on Metro TV’s Sports File.

“The things that differentiate title winners from mere participants, we have them.

“If the title winners are sleeping in five star hotels, paid good bonuses and the rest, we also give the same treatment to our players.

“And therefore with these in place there is the expectation that the players will respond by performing on the world stage.”

Ghana will commence its campaign against the USA on June 16 in Natal before taking on Germany and Portugal in the subsequent Group G games.

The Black Stars has only able to make it to the quarter finals of the World Cup but there is growing sense that the current crop can make history in Brazil.

Well said @Kuukuphilly, but to the GFA officials, why don't they set such realistic goals for the country (ie better education poilices, health care, water, lighting etc) Winning the world cup is an amazing feat, but a "proposed" $20million budget just to win a world cup, seems a bit unorthodox to say the least, we should set the killer instinct as kphilly said and strive to win every group stage match, with that mentality, we won't fear any opponent in our way.

enito, your point hits the nail right on the head. The GFA is trying to brainwash us into believing that its possible for someone to build castles in the air. No one can build a castle hanging in the air. For Ghana to win the world cup is a statement that is exaggerated. When we are talking about realities blind people who get their share in the $20million package in their pocket speak as though the world cup can also come into their pocket just like that.

If we play with the same intensity and sense of urgency like the last WC, we will win the tournament because this is actually the best players we ever assembled together. I believe we will make it to the semi finals and possibly the finals to win it all.

@selfmade I like your analysis. AA has his work cut for him. He must break the jinx. It can be done through careful planning and preparation. Every team has a weakness. AA should know the strengths and weaknesses of both his players and that of the opposing teams, from which he can orchestrate his strategies and tactics. Sometimes a team has to sit back and soak up pressure and then utilize counter attacks.......but you must have a great defense to do that hopefully your opponents should also have average strikers. Every team is different so there are so many variables to consider, making the work of a manager an herculean task. I recently watched Brazil beat Spain 3 nil in the Confederations Cup, and I saw how they did it...they used speed and athleticism. It was so difficult for Spain to string their short passes together, because the Brazilians run, passed, and dribbled so fast the Spanish got confused....there was also home support for Brazil. If Ghana plays with such Brazilian zeal, they will do very well against the likes of Germany, Portugal and USA. The key is the players have to be very FIT to play with such pace and dexterity.

When Brazil, France, Italy and Spain won the world cup, it wasn't because of their 'big' bonuses. Money was not as issue, infact, they were receiving far more with their clubs than with the national teams. What mattered was the mentality. A Brazilian substitute who has entered a match with 5 minutes to do wants to add his name to the scoreline even when they are leading by 6 nil. We need to be hungry and never get satisfied if we claim we want to win the World Cup. Again, clearly we should understand that if we manage to get out of the group, then I don't see any team stopping us because the best guys to win the trophy were in our group and we got past them.

These GFA officials are all MORONS. Even though I support Ghana, there is no way they can win the world cup with the type of coaching they have. GFA should go for Dunga, former Brizilian Coach to help us and not somebody like Milo.

Sometimes our leaders must set realistic goals,it's true anything is possible in football but I think no one with good leadership skills will set such target there by bringing unnecessary pressure on your team.i think at this time our target should be the semi-finals and not winning the ultimate.lets be sincere with our followers and don't think they are stupid, this not politics with those empty promises and stuff like that.Lets be serious and realistic as leaders.

We ll be lucky to come out of our group because of Germany and Portugal!! We have never beaten ANY WESTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRY before and this is the first time we have two of them in our group! Can we break the jinx of never beaten any Western European country before? Germany in particular has beaten us from the under 17 up to the senior team and we always struggled against them regardless of how dominant we are!! I quite remember they beat us twice in one one under 17 tournament!! They thrashed us in germany by 6-1 in Bochum and them beat us again in south Africa though we outplayed them! There is something about germany that we have to learn otherwise they will beat us again in Brazil!! This WC is our real test and history is not on our side! We always find western European countries hard to crack and they always thrashed us! Holland thrashed us by 4 goals to 1 prior to south Africa and I quite remember they have also beaten us before in one of our friendly matches! Italy beat us by 2 goals to nothing in germany 06! Norway drew with us in one of our friendly matches in the 90s!! We struggled to draw against understrength England at Wembley stadium after they have thoroughly dominated us!! Checked this out, germany, italy, holland has always thrashed us!! Turkey, norway and england draw with us after they have all thoroughly dominated us! Ghana is yet to picked a win against western European country and judging by history, both germany and Portugal ll beat us!! Our best ll be a draw but mind you, history always repeat itself!! We have so far-beaten all eastern European contenders at the WC namely Serbia and Czech but has failed to beat their western counterparts namely England and italy!!

What a stupid analysis. When did sleeping in a five star hotel and size of bonus translate into winning a world cup? If winning is about money, the US, Germany and Japan would become the major contenders ahead of all other countries.

As long as we go into every game with the killer instinct not by giving too much respect to the opponent.. Kwasi Appiah needs to put on his war face on the sidelines, the smiling is too much.

It is more realistic we go home with 0 points after being slammed by Portugal, Germany and USA. Currently Germany is the best team in the world. They don't have any weaknesses. Portugal made it out of the European group of Death last year, with Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark all in one pool. Compared to last year this year's pool is like a walk in the park for Portugal. Then we have the greatest country in the world called America. World class coach will set out a perfect strategy of hammering Appiah's boys.

Everything under the sun is realistic if you work at it deligently with self believe. We have the talents to give any team a good run for their money. The problem is the coach. If your head coach is full of inferiority complex and think myopically ,and calls for a traitor with self interest for help when as a matter of fact this agent of help could not make elsewhere then our expectation is a mere rhetoric. AA must have confidence in his ability and eschew nepotism against certain players and select from our immense talent pool and we will conquer the world. Essien should not be guaranteed a starting play cos he is not the Essien of old anymore. These are some of the tough decisions,AA should be bold to make. if AA has manage to qualify us to Brazil ,he should translate the same mental strength to the World Cup.Yes it is a bigger stage but it is the same belief. The likes of Mourhino,Guardiora etc after understudying went ahead in self belief and now they making and changing the football winning rules. Our biggest problem lies with AA. Calling for that Serbian traitor is the most stupid decision l have ever seen.
