Video: Blundering Ghanaian referee returns to action after ban

Ghanaian Fifa referee Joseph O. Lamptey has returned to the international scene after serving a six-month ban imposed on him by Caf.

The Ghanaian referee was slapped with the ban for controversially allowing a blatant handball in a Champions League match showed on television.

But Lamptey has return and was in the middle of action when Kaduna United of Nigeria defeated E. S. Setif of Algeria 3-0 in the Confederation Cup on Sunday.

Kaduna United lost the first leg by a lone goal. Referee Lamptey is scheduled again to officiate in the game between Enugu Rangers and Mighty Barolle of Liberia on Sunday in the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Competition on Sunday in Nigeria.

Referee Lamptey, it would be recalled was banned for six months by CAF for awarding a controversial goal in the CAF Champions League game between Esperance of Tunisia and Al Ahly of Egypt in the semi finals of the competition.

The referee told GNA Sports that he is happy to return to the pitch after serving the ban, adding that he is looking forward to revive his flamboyant career.

Referee Lamptey described the incident leading to the ban as unfortunate and said he was confident that such an incident will never happen again.

He remains one of the nation's leading referees both on the local and international scene.
