Boakye scores his maiden goal in Norway to rescue Valerenga

Ghanaian striker Isaac Boakye scored his first goal in Norway on Sunday to rescue his club Valerenga with a 1-1 draw against Lillestrom.

The 29-year-old, who was a second half substitute, struck with only nine minutes remaining to level the game against Lillestrom.

The visitors took the lead in the 53rd minute through Erling Knudtzon, leaving Valerenga's 17-match unbeaten run in the balance.

But Boakye fired home the equaliser after racing with two defenders before blasting through the goalkeeper's legs to send the home fans into raptures.

The goal silenced critics who questioned the team's acquisition of the Ghanaian two weeks ago.

Boakye signed a one-year contract on a free transfer to Valerenga after being without a club for four months.

His contract with Nuremberg was cancelled in December 2010 after two and a half years with the German side.
