AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi says Kevin Prince Boateng was handed the legendary number 10 jersey for the upcoming season because of his technical qualities.

The former Ghana international takes over the iconic shirt which was left behind following the exit Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf.

The club believe the 25-year-old has got the credentials to make an impact in his new jersey number.

Berlusconi has been speaking on new jersey which has seen Brazilian star Alexandre Pato swap his number 7 shirt for the Filipo Inzaghi's number 9 jersey.

"I believe that the club want to make a statement because Brazilian Pato will be the leader upfront," Berlusconi said.

"It seems that things are going well for the Duck (Pato). I saw the beautiful goal at the Olympics. We hope to continue like this.

"Boateng was given a prestigious shirt also because currently there's no one who can wear it for great technical skills."

Boateng wore the number 27 jersey for the Rossoneri last season.
