Former teammates of Quincy Owusu-Abeyie have revealed how the Ghana winger almost led Chelsea star Diego Costa astray during their time in Celta Vigo.
Costa was best friends with the former Arsenal youngster while both at loan at Celta in the 2007/08 season.
Quincy had always been considered as a troublemaker for his several off the field issues since bursting unto the scene from the youth system of Ajax.
One of his notable off the field issue was when he was arrested at a PFA dinner as reported in the Evening Standard while also being accused of being a notorious gambler.
Two of Quincyââ¬â¢s former teammates Antonio Nunez and Roberto Lago in a book ââ¬ËDiego Costa: The Art of Warââ¬â¢ by Fran Guillen recalled how the now Chelsea stay was almost led astray by his notorious Ghanaian budy.
ââ¬ÅThey were always together,â⬠Nunez said.
ââ¬ÅThe rest of us couldnââ¬â¢t understand how they communicated, because one of them could only speak Portuguese and the other stuck to English all the time.ââ¬
Lago explained the system the pair had in place: ââ¬ÅDiego told me how they did it: ââ¬ËI donââ¬â¢t speak English so we use sign language instead.ââ¬
ââ¬ÅWe were actually worried that he would be led astray by Quincy, who was a bit of a rebel.ââ¬
Quincy is widely believed to be a player full of promise who never quite lived up to his billing.
He has played for 10 different clubs across seven countries including stints with Arsenal, Spartak Moscow, Al Sadd, Malaga and Panathinaikos but never really met expectations.
Quincy played for Ghana at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations and also at the 2010 World Cup for the Black Stars having featured for the Dutch national team at youth level.
