Injured Ghana defender Jerry Akaminko gave his recovery a boost by returning to pitch for the first time since picking up a career threatening injury in May.

The 26-year-old lasted about 45 minutes on the pitch running around but at a clearly reduced tempo as the medical team of Eskisehirspor watched with keen interest.

Akaminko landed awkwardly and twisted his left ankle in Ghana’s 1-0 loss to Holland in the lead up to the World Cup finals, ruling him out of the competition.

The tough tackling defender is expected to begin full scale training later this month following the lengthy injury lay off.

The former Heart of Lions center back joined Eskisehirspor from fellow Turkish side Manisaspor in 2012 and has established himself as one of the pillars of the side with impressive performances.
