Boro winger Adomah targets Championship promotion and place in Ghana's World Cup squad

Ghana winger Albert Adomah believes 2014 can be a massive year for Boro and for himself.

The club’s top scorer is targeting a Championship promotion bid and a place in Ghana’s World Cup squad.

Adomah joined Boro in August from relegated Bristol City in £1m deal last summer and has already scored nine goals despite operating primarily on the wing.

His goalscoring form has been one of the few highlights of an otherwise forgettable first half to a season that he believes could yet end on a high.

The 26-year-old set himself a goals target for the current campaign – though refuses to reveal the exact total he hopes to achieve.

He also knows good club form in the Championship should cement a place in the Ghana squad for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

“I’ve got a goals target to reach and from a team point of view the aim is to get promotion this year,” said Adomah.

“If not, then hopefully we will get it the year after.

“From my personal point of view, if my club football goes well I could be selected for Ghana for the World Cup.

“Because Ghana qualified, 2014 could be a massive year for me, hopefully I will go to my first World Cup.

“It’s every footballer’s dream to play at a higher level and I believe the World Cup is a higher level than the Premier League, La Liga or Serie A.

“The World Cup is where all the top class players will be.”

London-born Adomah believes the future’s bright for Boro, who go into this Saturday’s game against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road just six points adrift of the play-off zone following a productive Christmas that yielded 10 points out of 12.

He certainly reckons there’s plenty of talent in Aitor Karanka’s squad to mount a serious challenge, saying: “When I signed for Middlesbrough I knew there were great players here.

“There are still great players here, I know in my heart we’ve got great players and in the New Year, when we hopefully start climbing up the table, we can prove that.”

Adomah is certainly enjoying life on Teesside, adding: “I’ve been here for the last five months now so I’ve settled down.

“I’ve got myself a place now and my family is here with me so I feel more at home.”
