Brave Medeama reach CAF Confederation Cup play-off despite losing in Zambia
Medeama are through to the final stage of CAF Confederation Cup

Medeama have progressed to the final qualifying stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 1-0 at Zesco United, to advance on a 2-1 aggregate scoreline.

The ambitious Ghanaian side held their nerve after going down 1-0 courtesy Jackson Mwanza's 50th minute strike  to qualify to the final qualifying stage of Africa’s inter-club competition.

Zesco United needed to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg but found their Ghanaian counterpart difficult to crack as they put up a  solid display at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.

Ya Ziko dominated the first half to an incredible extent, where Medeama could only thank Zesco’s profligate finishing in front of goal.

Zesco United’s opener set up what was expected to be an explosive and nerve-racking moment for the visitors but they held their own with experienced Michael Helegbe and Kabiru Moro in the thick of affairs.

With Medeama practically through at 2-1 on aggregate, Zesco decided to make a match of it and had the temerity to actually score with their first real attack.

From there, Medeama competed on an even kneel with Zesco, and the game became a more interesting affair.

There is growing belief among Ghanaian fans that the Mauve and Yellows could go all out to win the title in their debut campaign after a rather impressive performance so far.

Coach Carlos Roberto Paullete has brought a certain elegance and tactical fluidity to the side since taken over from Augustine Evans Adotey.

The Peruvian has brought an indomitable spirit and fundamental belief that they are a real power in the game to make them a more formidable opponent.

Carlos Roberto has improved an already phenomenal side in progress by making huge physical and mental demands of his charges.

The Tarkwa-based side are now in with a real chance to make history as they face the final hurdle before qualifying to the group phase of the competition.

They will be entered into a draw on April 1 to determine their final opponent.

The FA Cup holders are lifting high the flag of Ghana after three other representatives bundled out of the competition.

Kotoko, Berekum Chelsea and Ebusua Dwarfs failed to cope with the temperament of the competition after crashing out in the early stages.
