Moro Abubakar has left Hearts to sign for Serbian club Donji Srem

Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak have suffered a major blow as their powerful midfielder Moro Abubakar has swerved the Accra side to sign for Serbian top-flight club Donji Srem, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 23-year-old became the latest signing of the Serbian top flight club after inking a three-year deal as a free agent on Friday.

Moro Abubakar had been part of Hearts' pre-season preparations despite being out of contract with the Phobians.

There was a general feeling at the club that their captain would commit to a fresh deal.

But Abubakar after weighting his options have decided to ditch the Ghanaian giants as he goes in search of greener pastures.

It is unclear the terms under which the ex Mighty Jets star left the club since he was one of the players coach Herbert Addo had pencilled down to play an integral role in his new look side.

The new coach had axed some senior players including Emmanuel Ansong and Eziekel Tetteh but Moro Abubakar wasn't touched despite being out of contract with the club.

His departure will therefore be a massive blow to the Phobians who expect a solid team to challenge for honours in the coming season.

Hearts have not won the Ghana Premier League since 2009 and have had to endure the pain of watching their arch rivals Asante Kotoko dominate the domestic scene.

The Phobians will open their pre-season GHALCA Top 4 competition on Saturday against Heart of Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium.
