Breaking News: 40 players selected for Ghana U17 squad after nationwide justifier, Ashanti dominates
Paa Kwesi Fabin

Ashanti Region dominated the list of selected players following the nationwide tour for Ghana's U17 male national team with the Garden City producing nine of the 40 selected players for the second phase of the trials.

The Upper East Region surprisingly tied with Western Region at second with six players each from the two regions selected among the players after coach Paa Kwesi Fabin spent nearly one month combing the country for talents.

Brong Ahafo, one of the key hubs of talents in the country disappointingly produced just five budding talents while Northern Region produced four talents to be four highest producer on the list.

Greater Accra, the key talent producer for Ghana, could only have three players along with Central Region while Volta Region and Upper West unsurprisingly produced just one talent each.

In Greater Accra over 1,000 players turned up to be observed by the coach and the fact that only three were deemed fit for the Black Starlets shows the lack of depth in talent in the capital ravaged by the lack of playing pitches.

Following the successful nationwide tour of the recruitment team of the Male National Under-17 team, the technical team of the Black Starlets selected 40 players for the Phase Two of the selection process.

The selected players are requested to report for camping at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday 4th February, 2016 by 4pm.

The said players must arrive in camp with two passport size pictures and training kits consisting of hose, shin guards and boots.

The selected 40 players will engage in further trials with players from selected academies and selected players from Airtel Rising Stars before a final list of 35 players is selected to form the 2016/2017 National Under-17 Black Starlets squad.

The intensive selection exercise in Prampram is scheduled to last two weeks.
