Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has contacted his ex-boss Milovan Rajevac to play an advisory role for the Black Stars team at the 2014 World Cup, can exclusively reveal.

The Black Stars coach met the Serbian manager in Montenegro on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of playing an advisory role for his technical team for June’s World Cup in Brazil.

Rajevac, who is currently out of work, has told sources in the Serbian media that he is seriously considering the offer from coach Kwesi Appiah.

The Serbian coach was spotted in the stands during Ghana’s 1-0 loss to Montenegro in the friendly played in Podgorica on Wednesday.

A meeting between the Black Stars coach and his former boss was said to have taken place earlier in an unnamed location in Podgorica where Appiah is said to have made the offer.

Appiah, who will be leading the Black Stars to the 2014 World Cup, took the initiative to speak with the Serbian trainer in his bid to strengthen his backroom staff before the tournament.

But the Ghana FA(GFA) will have to ratify the proposal to appoint Rajevac if Appiah formally makes the request to appoint the Serbian who led the Black Stars to the quarter finals of the 2010 World Cup.

The GFA will review the situation once Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is able to convince his former boss to return to the side in an advisory role for the 2014 World Cup.

Rajevac remains hugely popular amongst Ghanaians during his impressive reign as coach of the Black Stars where he led the side to the finals of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations and almost guided Ghana to a historic semi final place at the last World Cup in South Africa - during which time Kwesi Appiah was his assistant.

The ex-Qatar coach is noted as a tactical genius for transforming the Black Stars into an almost unbeatable force during his two year reign from 2008.

Ghana is determined to make a stronger impact in the upcoming World Cup in Brazil where they are drawn in Group G alongside Germany, Portugal and the USA.

Do you think the move to bring back Milovan Rajevac in an advisory role will help the Black Stars at the 2014 World Cup? Make your thoughts known by commenting in the dialogue box below

The coach should be sacked immediately because he lacks confidence,Why this man as an adviser when we have competent and experience coaches in ghana here. This is a clear case of inferiority complex.

I agree with you on Sam Arday..We need this man very much.If we want to go to succeed in Brazil instead of money conscious Milovan..But E.K. Afranie,I dont tust due to his records of bribery ..

He isnt a Baltic bro, rather Balkan.I could agree with you.Because I remember to be one of those who had cursed him. After leaving Ghana so unjustly .This curse has actually worked lol..He never maintain a coaching job for long. But why bring him back?Maybe AA knows best.I think it was better he AA himself be honest to himself to confront the GFA to resign to hire a more competent person to take over. But looking at how further the situation has gone. Its very complicated one.Since the world cup is nearer at the corner. And changing coaches will be a gargantuan thing to do.As it might affect long term tactics of players with regards to them being exposed to another tactical discipline in the short term. And it will be a difficult thing to do.Besides the new coach wouldnt have the time to get to know the players much better. We must pray and hope.I guess a mistake had already been committed..

A combination of Milo and Djukovic I think will not be a bad idea since they all have been there and know the terrain including most of the players. We should not be surprised if AA goes to invite the latter as well.

Ghana, why do we have to rely on foreign Coaches when we have SAM ARDAY, the multi-system man. I have watched several U-17 World Cup but there is no technically gifted Coach like SAM ARDAY. Why this man is not used in Ghana football beats my imagination. Another man is E.K. Afranie. These two will be better addition than Rajevic.

@ mukmin.. Inferiority complex!! I can't believed this from u that appiah wanted just a hug from a white man!! The essence of what milo did was that he was sad and probably angered that Ghana has beaten his country and what this means is that he had wanted Serbia to beat us though he is pay by Ghanaians tax payers money!! Can't u believed this!! This is not an issue of black or white but rather is a serious issue of loyalty!! Let to this guy alone Serbia should have won the game and he displayed his hatred against his own team in front of his players and the watching world audience!! That's was messed up and am surprised a Ghanaian ll defend this shameful behavior by this guy!! Again when we needed him the most after his so called wonderful work, he abandoned us and opted for big contracts but what has changed now!! This guy is obvious coming back to milk us dry and I can see him taking us to FIFA after Brazil WC demanding monies from us!! Mark this space!!

I think it will be better to bring in a newly respected face, a world class coach, to boost motivation to the players. Bringing Milo is not good. He failed terribly after leaving Ghana. That tells you if he is a master tactician as people say. HE IS NOT A MASTER TACTICIAN. HE WAS LUCKY!!!
  • mukmin says:
    March 07, 2014 02:24 am
You make some valid points but I think Milo is a better tactition than Appiah that does not mean I don't think Appiah is not good, heck I think Maxwell Konadu is better than Appiah because of the way the aforementioned ie Milo and Konadu read games and effect substitutions I just don't feel the same way about Appiah based on my observations of how his substitutions and tactics impact a game. That said I'm not advocating that Mil replace Appiah all I'm saying is Appiah has the right to appoint Milo if he wants because like the saying goes 2 heads are better than 1. Also I would say you have an inferiority complex if you think a hug from a white man is something important that should validate the essence of a black man. That is putting him on a pedestal as if his hug is something important. His mandate was to take us deep into the knockout stage all the other extras are irrelevant.

You are one of the few sensible commentators. We all want to win the World Cup but let us be realistic and understand that there are ups and downs in any process. In 2010 Nigeria hired a European coach at the last minute and he failed..We need to stop thinking that we need European advisors for everything.

@ mukmin... I respect your views but what u just said is not different from what appiah too has done for us!! Come on mate!! Appiah has been able to qualified us to the WC from a very tough campaign compared to what milo did!! U have forgotten so soon when zambia were given three solid points for Sudan stupidity and how appiah managed to blaze the storm to qualify us 2 the WC against all odds!! Except the zambia game, this guy never dropped any points again!! Appiah again took us to the semi finals of afcon too!! Again appiah has also won the all Africa games whiles mido just graced the Chan finals without bringing home the trophy!! There is absolutely nothing mido has done that appiah hasn't surpassed and even managed to break some big jinx against almighty Egypt!! Egypt, morocco and south Africa are the only countries in Africa with better head to head than us but appiah did the unthinkable when he beat Egypt by 6-1, breaking a major jinx for Ghana against Egypt and also MAKING THE SECOND LEG A MERE FORMALITY which is no different from mido qualifying Ghana to the WC with two games to spare!! Appiah had a tough WC qualifying campaign than mido because during midos time it was straight forward qualification without any playoffs but this time after the group stage, there was a playoffs and appiah didn't disappoint but rather qualified in style against no small team than Egypt!! Now finally, if u don't see nothing wrong with a national head coach pushing his assistant away in front of thousand live audience because his native country has lost against team, then am sorry to say that u have no DIGNITY!!

Those against such as selfmade are making arguments based on emotion rather than objectivity. The truth of the matter is when Milo was headcoach of Ghana his track record was impressive from taking the chan team to the finals, qualifying for the worldcup with games to spare, reaching the final of the cup of nations with an unfancied team to being a pk away from making the semifinal. He had a good team and he got results. The results speak for themselves give credit where it's due and stop worrying about trivial issues such as whether he hugged Akwasi Appiah or not. Would you rather we lost and he hugged Appiah or vice versa. He may not have hugged Appiah when we beat Serbia but he still took us to the quarter finals and which other coach can you name that has achieved that? We don't have to like him as long as he delivers. Personally I think it's a good move by Appiah and he's entitled to do whatever he pleases until he's fired or his contract runs out.

Packing the bus has not achieved anything for us but rather it has destroyed our team play and shape!! The worst thing is that this bad so called tactical move has trickled down to our junior teams who happens to express themselves on the field winning trophies in the junior levels!! Except Silas tetteh who has a very tactical knowledge about the Ghanaian play, the rest of our coaches has blindly adopted this packing the bus approach which has earned us oblivious reviews at major tournament!! Milo didn't achieve anything with this approach, appiah too and konadu recently used this approach in south Africa and it was total disaster and very distasteful display from the local bs!!

I'm glad Akwasi appiah finally went for some tactical help my only fear , Rajevic would not force to switch to that silly one striker rule , The 4-4-2 suits , we have the players to execute the 4-5-1 is meant for teams like Greece and Monetenegro , its only good if the coach is an expert in it . however the 4-4-2 really opens up the field and the tempo we have the players for that formation.

I have enjoyed reading the differences in opinions above. As a Ghanaian i love having a countryman as the HC of our blackstars. But more important than that, I have love that we earning our place as a football nation not just a great African footballing country. Maybe it's AA, maybe it's the players, maybe GFA that wants to see milo's inclusion. Familiarity breeds comfort and ease. I am sure if it's the right move, then it will happen. Any good coach will be able to control his bench, locker room and team (inclusive of coaches). We all want success at the WC, but we must be honest and know that we don't have players with skills the likes of Spain. Therefore we need to put the players in the best position, if that means 2 heads are better than 1, then let's do it.

If he actually made the initiative and Milovan Rajevac accepts it, then the other issue will be who gets the final say or if Akwesi Appiah will listen to his advise. I know he will because obviously he has a great deal of respect for the Serbian. The other issue will be how much he wants to be paid. I hope he accepts that offer to rebuild his image.

wooooow kkknj, are you mentally retarded? your comments suggests such. what is the problem with asking for advise or a different perspective??? I'm assuming by your name that you're in NJ, and khow very well know that america is the country that it is due to ideas and insights by so called advisors and consultants. Even presidents have advisors, let alone a coach. people like you are the main reason why africans fail. u choose to fail with your pride rather that asking for advise to succeed. to say that bringing in a coach who has experience at the world cup is not a move in the right direction is beyond me.. stick to your day job collecting garbage mate, making constructive comments are not your strong suit.

No! No! No! No! Akwasi you are panicking after yesterday’s match. You are now faced with the reality some people foresaw and you denied and we all supported you that you do not need any technical director. Okay wait, technical advisor or technical director or whatever you may call it what at all is the difference? Please, this move is a desperate move by a desperate coach and this is not acceptable. I thought we routed for you because we thought it was time for a Ghanaian to manage the BS although some of us believed otherwise, we supported you after you were appointed. Why this you turn? So you needed help after all and why has it taken you such a long time to realise it? This shows you cannot think fast that is why you are not able to make any tactical changes when a game is in progress. I am so disappointed in you. In fact we lost yesterdays match because you did not do the right variation and did not stamp your authority on the players to do what you actually wanted from them. At a point in time it became difficult for me to know KPB's role and also at a point in time I did not know whether inkoom was the one striking however, when the Montenegro attacked through the right back he Inkoom was not there. How can you deploy one of your most creative and skillful players to play holding midfield role when you are looking for an equaliser? You called a team without a holding midfielder and expect to win. Your lateral defense has been underperforming for all these years yet you continue to use the same players who cannot even begin simple build up or string passes together whilst you have the opportunity in this match to try Kwabena Adusei, Sulley Nuru, Abeiku Ainooson and say Sumaila at these lateral defense to help you solve what appears to be one of your problems. You have to know that Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Kevin Prince Boateng, Agyemang Badu, Kwadwo Asamoah none of these can ever be used as your holding midfielders because all of these players either have lost their power or love to go forward or just tactically indiscipline Aaba! AA you better sit up and be steady oooo!

Akwasi Appiah needs help. He is not self made like you. He needs others. Milo is not the coach. He is to give advise, the coach can take it or leave it. If AA cannot have Milo work under him, then he is not a good leader. I will prefer Milk to be assistant coach even. Akwasi Appiah looked too stressed during a tough game. How can you think and strategies when u so uptight.

You can say alot about Milo: vvery unlikable, no charisma, bad communications skils, doesn't speak English, needs a translator.....BUT he's an excellent tactician. See the immense effectivity of his line-ups saw Ghana march on to the quarter finals in 2010. So I think it's a good idea to have him on board.

For me i dont think so and I will quickly tell Akwesi Appiah to take his word back or he resigns.Ghana suppose to do this himself. Are we not human beings made by God with same brain. Is Akwesi Appiah telling us he wasn't sure of himself when leading the team in the qualifying. Is he telling us he can't think anymore. we want you to learn that is why your Nation put you in charge. what it mean is that when you fail you still have chance to improve. Please Akwesi spare us or you resign.

After all grasshopper wants where there is green grass. He was a free agent, thus whoever gave him more deserves his service. So don't blame Milo, the fault was with GFA.

@ lion fire... U are a big bloody fool!!! Think and reason like a Ghanaian!! Is milo mourinhno? This milo guy hasnt achieved anything with any of the team he has coached after his exit from Ghana and this should tell u that he is useless!! This is a very mediocre coach who only succeeded with the bs because of the talent available and not because he is good! He has been sacked and his contract terminated by all the clubs he has managed ever since he left Ghana! Again mister DUMMY ASS, those Brazilian former coaches are competent coaches who bring something to the table and not this journeyman who has so far failed in all his endeavors!!! Again LIONESS, what do u mean by the statemet that, mourihno left Chelsea and came back? Try to use both sides of your brains to think righ becasue u dont make sense! Mourihno returned to Chelsea as a coach not as an ADVISOR!! What advisory role is he coming to play? Again, mourihno was very successful after he left Chelsea as compared to this man who has been fired by all his clubs and countries he has managed! Do u think abra ll recalled mourihno again has not achieved after his Chelsea exit? Hell no! He came back because he accomplished alot!Don't we have enough technical crew already? Didnt ghanaians including appiah refused this technical head sometimes back! Think u big DUMMY! This is public gimmick and waste of scarce resources!! This is a total waste of taxpayers money!! Even if we need him as a technical crew member, it ll be such a big shame to bring this ingrate again!! Think u stupid fool! What is so special about this so called milo? What? He qualified Ghana to the WC and appiah too has also qualified us to the WC and am just surprised people are all over here making noise like we have been thrashed by Montenegro!! Milo didn't do anything extraordinary for us and besides all the things he accomplished, AA too has accomplished! This milo guy is just looking for an opportunity to milk us and market himself again and only a fool like u can't see the line and the connections!!

I cannot believe all the negative comments being pored on AA. The man is doing well. What matters is results. He has been able to qualify Ghana to the world cup. That is a great achievement. When Milo left Ghana, what has been his results. If AA is not competent, but is getting the job done, that's all we need. How many foreign coaches have we had who cold not qualify us to the world cup. Since he is a black man he is not getting the support and respect he deserves from his own people. We can not win every game. When it matters, he prevails.

If Appiah think that Milo is solutions than something is wrong here. Why Milo didn't get any job since he left Ghana? Let aside Saudi Arabia and Qatar, it was only money hunt for couple of months. The fact is that Appiah scares that he couldn't make any result in Brasil and he try to find some "name" to go along with him. Despite Milo is looking for any drop. He reject Ghana in 2010. because of money, and now he want to go back. Why? Because no one want to give him a job, expect Appiah.
