Ghana defender Daniel Opare has terminated his contract with Portuguese club FC Porto after he was demoted to the youth side, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 24-year-old is now a free agent after reaching a mutual agreement with officials of the former European champions to have his three-year contract cancelled.

Opare was unhappy over the club’s decision to demote him into the reserves despite excelling on loan at Turkish club Besiktas in the second half of last season.

His exploits in Turkey was however unable to earn him a permanent stay as the clubs were unable to reach an agreement over his transfer fee.

He thus has to revert to Porto where he was told he must train with the reserve side.

Representatives of the Ghana international immediately engaged officials of Porto to eventually reach an agreement to have his contract terminated.

Opare only signed for Porto last year as a free agent after running down his contract at Standard Liege where his football thrived the most.

The former Ghana U20 star had previously played for the youth side of Real Madrid but was unable to break into the star-studded first team in his two-year stay at the club.
