English side Chelsea have signed talented Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu and have immediately been loaned him to Dutch club Vitesse Arnheim.

The 23-year-old join for a fee of around £3.5 million from Portuguese giants Porto.

Insiders close to the deal have told GHANAsoccernet.com, Ghana's leading football news outlet, that he will sign a four-year contract with Chelsea if he is successful in the medical.

The Ghana international, who has just a year left on his contract with Porto, will arrive in Holland on Friday to undergo the medical before he is presented by Vitesse Arnheim.

Atsu has been sent straight out on loan, with manager Jose Mourinho having already made clear his one in, one out policy at Stamford Bridge.

The deal ends the silky player's nightmare with Porto after he was frozen out of the club's first team for refusing to extend his expiring contract.

The move is a massive coup for Atsu and beneficial to Porto who could have lost the player on a free transfer if they transfer window had closed.

The move to Holland will guarantee him crucial playing time and enough space to grow because of the open play in Dutch football.

With the 2014 World Cup approaching, playing time will be crucial to players being selected to Ghana's national team for the tournament in Brazil.

Jose Mourinho will consider the deal a subconscious victory over Liverpool, who were also linked with the player.

As it was unclear how Atsu will fit into the Chelsea first team they have loaned him out to the Dutch outfit to help his progress.
