Waris, Gyan in Ghana's starting line-up attack to face Sudan, Badu dropped
Abdul Majeed Waris will start in the Ghana attack against Sudan

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has named an attacking-minded starting line-up to face Sudan on Sunday with striker Asamoah Gyan and Abdul Majeed Waris spearheading the attack.

The Black Stars have also deployed probably the strongest midfield in Africa with Rabiu Mohammed and Sulley Muntari fighting from the heart of the midfield.

They will get support from their offensive midfielders Mubarak Wakaso and Kwadwo Asamoah, who will also play just behind the strikers apart from his duties of supporting the defensive midfielders.

It is the first Ghana start of Waris who won the top scorer award in the Swedish top-flight last season which shows that Ghana will be playing the 4-4-2 formation as compared to the 4-5-1 deployed in recent times.

This means enterprising midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, who has been a regular starter in the team over the past two years, has been dropped to the bench of the Black Stars because of the intense competition for places in the midfield.

That is because coach Kwesi Appiah will go with his trusted defenders with Harrison Afful playing in the right back position while Richard Kissi Boateng players from the left-back position.

The centre of the defence will be marshalled John Boye and Isaac Vorsah with Fatau Dauda retaining his place in goal after excelling at the Africa Cup of Nations.

This also means that Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong must wait till later in the game to have any chance of making his Ghana debut.

The same fate awaits the other three players in the squad chasing their Black Stars debut as Baba Abdul Rahman, David Accam and Mahatma Otoo must till later in the game to have any chance of making his Ghana debut.

Ghana needs a win against the Nile Crocodiles at the Baba Yara Stadium. Kick off is at 16:00GMT.

The Black Stars head into the match in Kumasi sitting second and three points behind Zambia in the Group D campaign.

Starting line-up: Fatau Dauda, Harrison Afful, Richard Kissi Boateng, John Boye, Isaac Vorsah, Rabiu Mohammed, Sulley Muntari, Kwadwo Asamoah, Abdul Majeed Waris, Asamoah Gyan, Mubarak Wakaso.
