Injury boost for Ghana as Majeed Waris joins Black Stars for training

Published on: 13 June 2014
Abdul Majeed Waris heading to training.

Ghana received a huge injury boost on Friday when striker Abdul Majeed Waris joined the bus for training.

The Spartak Moscow player has been a worry for the medical team after injuring his thigh in the final pre-World Cup warm up against South Korea in Miami.

Waris was expected to spend ten days in the treatment room but has made a quicker than expected recovery.

He missed the team’s first training session- which was closed for public viewing-in Maceio on yesterday.

The 22-year-old will have to convince the technical of his fitness level and fight for a starting role against USA in their tournament opener on Monday.

Ten thousand home fans in Maceio will be admitted to the Estadio Rei Pele as Ghana continue to work out.

Guys, the match against the USA is not going to be easy or a walk over as many of you here think. We have to play our best game and be disciplined throughout the duration of the game to get something out of it. I really hope we win this match. GHA 3 - 2 USA

AA needs to start Waris with Asa. Gyan, then introduce Jordan later against the USA. Kwarasey Opare Rabiu boye K.Asa Essien. Muntari. Waris Dede KPB Asa G. Jordan could replace Waris later. I choose Rabiu for centre half because of his no nonsense tackling and height.I am surprise AA has not tried him at the back.

Great news! So, did he actually train or just 'joined the training bus' as reported. I really like this guy playing with Gyan upfront, though Jordan did great the last time around. Maybe we play all three at the same time. We might need a lot of goals to get through after all the group stage matches are played. Good lucl Majeed!!

I agree with Waris and Gyan starting (in Waris is fit of course). Rabiu can stay right in front of the defense and can help defend corner kicks and other set pieces.
