Dwarfs defender Rashid Sumaila handed late call-up to join Ghana squad

Posted On Monday, 3rd October 2011

Rashid Sumaila

Ebusua Dwarfs Rashid Sumaila has earned a late call-up to join Ghana’s squad in Kenya for this Saturday’s crucial Nations Cup qualifier at Sudan, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 19-year-old centre-back replaces right-back Yaw Frimpong who was bizarrely dropped from the initial 22-man squad at the last minute.

Sumaila was a key player in the back line of the All Africa Games medal winning team and played at the 2011 African Youth Championship in South Africa.

“We are expecting him to Accra in a few hours and get ready to leave for Kenya. He is ready for the task ahead,” Dwarfs head of Marketing John Ansah told GHANAsoccernet.com

He will leave Accra on Monday night to join his teammates who will train at the Kasarani Stadium on Tuesday.

oh ho Ghana, why. Who is this guy. is he better than Francis dekoh and issah ahamed. i seriously want to know the criteria used in slelecting players forthe national team

  2. jesse says:

Fairly good squad but not convincing at all! What about the lad that plays for Arsenal?Thought his switch to play for Ghana has been finalized?Sulley Muntari is rusty and then i think David Addy and the chap that plays for Villarial should be given a chance! All the same all the best!

    • Musah fifa says:

the players are good is only some few places are bad, like the Defenders we have error, that’s Lee Addy, and from the Midfielders Wakaso from Villarreal have to be included and also Emmanuel Frimpong from Arsenal, i think they said he has switch to Ghana, why not calling him now? the Strikers, i think there is only Asamoah Gyan, because Prince Tagoe and Dominic Adiyiah are not fit for the Black Stars, why can’t GFA invite Matthew Amoah i think is far better than P Tagoe and Adiyiah,

    • Mojahadine says:

Yes, he switched to Ghana on 09/06/2011, nobody knows what the hell the coach is doing by not calling him.

I think the coach is confused with some of the names, like calling Dominic Adiyah instead of the other Dominic.

      USA

  3. joe says:

why is the coach not interested in calling nana akwasi asare who most people think deserves the stars call up. should smell something fishy in the call ups

  4. kweku says:

please akwasi broni, drop dominic adiya and prince tagoe for sometime.they are causing financial loss to the national team and the state.

  5. ntsen says:

The coach can not come up with any tangible reasons why he dropped in form dede ayew a key member of the black stars squad.shame coach.

  6. anelka says:

he is the best defender in ghana and i know he can deliver. long live rashid

  7. carbonite says:

:-), look at our STRIKERS oh ghana they all play in YAWA leagues…UAE, Turkey 1st and 2nd divisions..lol

  8. WHAT???????? says:

Ghanasoccernet, where is Mubarak who play his football in Spain?Since dede ayew didn’t get a call up,I think this guy should have been called to replace him because he is always fantastic on the ball and knows what to do with the ball as dede ayew.

  9. magga says:

    The coach is confused!

  10. ekow says:

What is this couch trynna do.. mann.. ayew, prince, k asamoah, agyeman are d best middles he shuld use. no prince no ayew.. mann this squad suck..

  11. I think he deserves to be called because he is currently de best defender in Ghana. I wish him well.

  12. Deathrow says:

@Carbonite you`re making me laugh. Instead of guys on this forum should be commenting on our weak useless strikers, they rather commenting on some inclusion of some players.
