Michael Essienââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ëdaddyââ¬â¢ Jose Mourinhoââ¬â¢s departure from Real Madrid has been confirmed by club President Florentino Perez.
The decision to terminate the appointment of the Portuguese trainer was made at a board meeting on Monday.
Club President Florentino Perez confirmed the decision by the board to sack Mourinho at a press conference this evening.
The axe drops on Mourinho following a trophy-less campaign with Los Blancos and Perez confirms it is the main reason why they have decided to part ways with the iconic manager.
ââ¬ÅAfter the board meeting which has just ended, I would like to inform you of two decisions,â⬠he said at the press conference.
ââ¬ÅReal Madridââ¬â¢s relationship with coach Jose Mourinho will terminate at the end of this season.
ââ¬ÅToday is a sad day. We have reached an agreement with our coach and we wish him the best of luck.
ââ¬ÅReal Madrid is the best club of the 21st century. In other words, the best in history. This season, we fell short of those expectations.
ââ¬ÅWe do not think our achievements of this year have been sufficient for a demanding club like Real Madrid and a coach like Mourinho.
ââ¬ÅThe word ââ¬Ëfailureââ¬â¢ doesnââ¬â¢t correspond to the reality â⬓ right now, you need 100 points to win the league."
Perez however insisted no agreement has been reached with anyone to take over the job which will be made vacant this summer.
Reports are rife an agreement has been struck with PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti to take over.
But Perez insisted no such agreement has been made.
ââ¬ÅWe do not have any agreement signed with any potential new coach,â⬠Perez added.
"We have a number of candidates in mind not just one. We asked PSG whether his (Ancelotti) contract would be terminated, they replied, 'No'."
The Portuguese won La Liga once, one Spanish Cup and the Spanish Super Cup during his three year stay with Real Madrid.
He is widely reported to be set to be re-appointed manager of English club Chelsea with whom he enjoyed many success.
