Brighton boss Hughton delighted with cameo from Man Utd's Wilson

Manchester United striker James Wilson was a second-half substitute for Brighton's 2-1 win over Birmingham City.

Wilson joined the Seagulls on-loan last week and enjoyed a winning debut.

He came on for goalscorer Bobby Zamora on 66 minutes and had a late chance to mark his introduction with a goal.

Beram Kayal played in Wilson, but he was denied by former Manchester United keeper Tomasz Kuszczak in the Blues goal.

"It was a really good run," Brighton boss Chris Hughton said. "That's what he can do and he and Tomer Hemed can learn from Bobby. He is very good behind the scenes and he does things in subtle ways."

Hughton admitted his side had surpassed his expectations by being top going into December after finishing 20th last term.

He added: “I think we recruited well in the summer and had a very good pre-season."
