The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will meet in October to decide on which candidate to support for the upcoming FIFA election scheduled for next year.

This comes after Africa's football governing body decided on Thursday not to back the FIFA presidential bid of Musa Bility of Liberia.

The CAF Executive Committee will meet on 27 and 28 October 2015, following the closure of nominations for the FIFA presidency.

Bility, 48, is one of four men to have expressed their interest in standing in next year's election to replace outgoing Fifa chief Sepp Blatter.

The Liberian FA chief requested a meeting with the CAF Executive Committee to seek the continent's support for the elections in February next year.

Following the decision to snub Bility's bid, the body will wait after nominations have closed before deciding on which candidate to support.

CAF says it will support a candidate who will further the interest of African football and wants time to study all options.

"To preserve the interests and unity of African football, it was agreed that Africa will give time to explore all options and decide," a CAF statement read on Thursday read.

The statement made no mention of possible contenders from Africa or elsewhere it might support.

CAF President Issa Hayatou, FIFA's senior vice president, and South African businessman Tokyo Sexwale, a member of FIFA's discrimination task force, have been speculated as candidates to succeed Sepp Blatter on Feb. 26.

The panel will next meet Oct. 27, the day after FIFA's deadline for applications.
