CAF snubs Ghanaian clubs as top 30 clubs in Africa are released, Ahly tops list
Ahly has been named as Africa's top club

There are no Ghanaian clubs in the list of top 30 clubs in Africa for this month as released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) with Egyptian giants Al-Ahly remaining untouchable in first place.

The list of top clubs on the continent is dominated by north African clubs with six clubs from the region out of the list of 14 countries who made it into the list of top 30 clubs.

Tunisia has the highest number of clubs in the list with five teams while their neighbours Morocco followed in second place with four clubs.

Behind the Egyptian club Ahly is, Esperance of Tunisia while TP Mazembe of DR Congo complete the top three podium. The fourth place is occupied by Sudan's Al Hilal.

Behind the Esperance, we always find the duo of Etoile Sportive du Sahel (5th) and Club Sportif Sfaxien (6th) also from Tunisia

Club Africain of Tunisia is the fourth in this ranking club with a 27th place.

The top five of Tunisian club is completed by the Tunisian Club Athletic Bizertin which occupies the 30th place.

Nigeria and Egypt had three countries each while DR Congo, Sudan, Mali, Algeria and Ivory Coast have two each.

Congo Brazzaville, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Libya all have one club each.

The revelation sparks a new debate about the state and standard of the Ghana league which has been condemned in certain quarters in the country as poor.

However the number of countries in the league is by far dominated by countries receive state funding for their clubs to participate in continental competitions like the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

The list shows that CAF favours clubs who have advanced recently in its continental competitions in its ranking which means Ghanaian clubs are on an unequal footing with no state funding for clubs.

Among the 30 clubs in CAF's top ranking only South Africa does not receive state funding but have developed thanks to their large sponsorship deals.
