Calne Football Club have donated footballs and kit for a Ghanaian member to take to his home country.

Ernest Osie travelled to back Ghana over the Christmas holidays with a few surprises.

Private Ernest Osie, also known as Oz, is based at the army barracks in Hullavington. Private Osie, 21, said: “The kit goes to a local football club called Bis-Paradise. I used to play with them in Ghana. When I came to the UK in 2013 I wanted to help them in any way possible. The team are based in the Effia-Kuma community in Takoradi, Ghana. When I gave them the kit they were very grateful and found it very helpful. We have a very good relationship.”

Steve Davis, the club’s reserved manager, said: “When Oz approached me, and advised of the support he wanted to give to his local town in the way of football kit and footballs, we were only too pleased to help. We supplied Oz with two lots of football kits, and footballs, which he flew back to Ghana.”

Calne Town FC were happy to help support and provide kit for the team out in Ghana, helping to give kits to those who need them.

“Calne Town were only too pleased to support the local community in Ghana. When I saw the photos, and to see how happy they were, is not only humbling, but also very rewarding. These guys normally play on hard ground, with no boots or tops.”
