Carragher: Liverpool could\'ve won title if Klopp bought in Jan

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Jurgen Klopp's reluctance to buy midseason blew their title chances.

Carragher has been impressed with the job that Klopp has done taking Liverpool to the cusp of a top-four finish.

And he believes that the German could have even delivered the club's first title for 27 years if he had strengthened his squad during the January transfer window.

He said: “Liverpool fans were getting excited about the possibility of winning the title up until Christmas – and I thought they might have taken a real shot at it if they had done some business in the January window.

“In terms of strength in depth, Liverpool probably have only the sixth-best squad in the Premier League.

“But having no European football was a big advantage – just like when they went close in 2014. You don't know when those opportunities are going to come around again, so you have to go for it.

“But for me, once they are back in Europe, Liverpool won't challenge for the title again until they do something about the defence.

“As well as a keeper, they need a left-back and another centre-back."
