Video: Champions League top scorer Emmanuel Clottey nears record

Published on: 22 July 2012

Ghana striker Emmanuel Clottey increased his tally in the CAF Champions League to 11 goals after bagging a brace on Sunday against TP Mazembe.

The 24-year-old is now just two goals away from equalling the competition record of 13 goals scored by Nigerian Stephen Worgu in 2007.

Clottey's efforts helped the 2011 Ghanaian champions to rally from two goals down to draw 2-2 at the Stade Mazembe on Sunday.

The 24-year-old converted from the spot in the 71st minute mark after being fouled by goalkeeper Robert Kidiaba Muteba inside the box to halve the scoring.

Clottey then struck a classy drive after shimming two TP Mazembe defenders inside the box.

His double came 15 days after netting a hat trick against Zamalek in their Group B opener at the Accra Sports Stadium.

He has set an 18 goal target for himself in the competition.
