CHAN 2014: Burundi go top of Group D
Selemani Ndikumana of Burundi and Niass Amadou of Mauritania

A goal from Selemani Ndikumana in the final seconds of the game handed Burundi a 3-2 win over Mauritania in a Group D CAF African Nations Championship match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night.

It was one of the exciting games of the tournament as both teams held the lead at different times, but a fantastic goal, probably the goal of the tournament, from Ndikumana fired Burundi to the top of the Group.

Burundi moved to the top of the group on four points, the same amount of points as Gabon who also won earlier in the day, but Burundi have scored more goals.

The loss for Mauritania sadly signals the end of their tournament as they cannot qualify for the knockout stages no matter what they do in their final group game.

Ely Cheikh Voulany opened the scoring early on, with the Mauritania player finding the back of the net in the second minute of the match.

Voulany robbed a defender of the ball on the left flank before driving into the 18-yard box and firing the ball past the keeper from an extremely acute angle 16-yards out, 1-0.

His goal, however, was quickly cancelled out by Fiston Razak Abdul in the 11th minute as he headed home a left wing cross, 1-1

Burundi took the lead in the 61st minute through Christophe Nduwarugira who fired Burundi in front with a powerful strike from the edge of the box that found the bottom right corner of the net, 2-1.

Their lead, however, also only lasted a short period of time with Mohamed Taghiyoullah Denna equalising in the 70th minute.

Selemani Ndikumana, however, scored a wonder goal with five seconds to play. With virtually the last kick of the game, Selemani Ndikumana scored one of the goals of the tournament as he drove a 35-yard thunderbolt into the top right hand corner, 3-2.
